Are you a Goal Setter or a Goal Achiever?

How often have you made goals? Write it down if you can think of a number. Now think for a minute and answer, how many of those have you achieved. What is your percentage – 10, 30, 50, 70%? There is no magic percentage that you should fall in, but only your personal and financial gratification.

Write your goals down!

Writing you goals down help clarify your thinking, keep you on track, and reinforce your commitment.

A famous study from Yale in 1953 reported that 3% of Yale graduates that had written goals had more wealth years later than the other 97% of the class combined.

Another study was done by Harvard Business School on the financial status of its students 10 years after graduation. CheckĀ out these results!

  • 27% of them needed financial assistance
  • 60% were living paycheck to paycheck
  • 10% were living comfortably
  • 3% were financially independent

Lets look at those numbers in detail:

  • Guess who had no goal setting process in their lives? Yep, the 27% who need financial assistance.
  • Who had basic goals, taking life day by day? That would be the 60% that are living paycheck by paycheck.
  • Some knew where they were going to be in the next five years. They are now living comfortably and make up the 10%.
  • For those that had written goals and the steps required to reach them, they make up the 3% that are financially independent.

Break your goals down into 52 weeks or 12 months. Write down step by step on how you are going to achieve them. Find a goal buddy, someone to keep you on track.
